7 Romances from YA Fantasy Series You'll Love From Start to Finish

BOOKS, LISTS / Tuesday, February 13th, 2018

It's almost hearts' day! Today, I've come up with a list of YA romantic fantasies in which I ADORED the romance from start to finish–this is basically a compilation of my all-time favorite romances, so they'll pretty much be backlist books! (You definitely won't see Shatter Me up here–I'm still salty about that particular romance.) This is a sort-of list of recommended books you can win if you join my appreciation giveaway, which closes tomorrow! EEP. Without further ado, the books!

(Please bear in mind that I only counted series I actually completed–which is not a lot. Curse my short attention span!)

In no particular order:

The Anna duology by Kendare Blake: Anna Dressed in Blood, Girl of Nightmares

Here we have a ghost, and a ghost slayer. Obviously, this is a forbidden romance, which I KNOW is pretty much everyone's guilty pleasure. Both Cas and Anna are incredibly complex characters who make for a complex but deep romance. As the series progressed, so did my love for this heart-wrenchingly beautiful couple. No spoilers, but I will say there are tears for angst!

The Blood of Eden trilogy by Julie Kagawa: The Immortal Rules, The Eternity Cure, The Forever Song

Vampire Allie and mortal boy Zeke compliment each other so well–Allie being a blood-sucking strong woman, and Zeke being a kind and wholesome hero! This relationship just screams healthy, and I LOVED the forbidden-romance angst from the start until the end. I cried my heart out in every single book in this trilogy!

The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead: Vampire Academy, Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, Spirit Bound, Last Sacrifice

This series will forever hold my favorite student-teacher romance. I love how Dimitri, being older than Rose, helps her grow so much throughout the series. You'll witness her start off as a whiny girl to a strong young lady, with a romance that lets her character develop, which not all series can pull off!

The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan (+ PJO, although it's not YA): The Lost Hero, The Son of Neptune, The Mark of Athena, The House of Hades, The Blood of Olympus

Ah, PERCY JACKSON. My ultimate book boyfriend. I've adored his romance with Annabeth since book 1 of the original Percy Jackson books, which are still classified as MG rather than YA. This is one of the most genuine and beautifully-paced romances I've ever encountered. They started from disliking each other a bit, to becoming friends, best friends, and then what they are now. (I STILL read Percabeth fanficiton in my free time.)

The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa: The Iron King, The Iron Daughter, The Iron Queen, The Iron Knight

There's a reason why there are two Julie Kagawa series in this list–this woman writes THE BEST romances. Here we have Ash and Meghan, who also grow so much throughout the series. I can't remember much about them, to be honest, BUT! I know my heart practically burst of romance feels in the last book! I probably reread a ~certain~ scene there more than ten times.

The Girl From the Well duology by Rin Chupeco: The Girl From the Well, The Suffering

If you loved Anna Dressed in Blood, you're bound to love The Girl From the Well. Aside from the awesome gore, there's a beautiful ghost-to-human romance in this series. Well, actually, the first book didn't really have an actual romance, but more of a story leading to a romance, which is present in book two. I'm technically cheating with this one, aren't I?

The Archived duology by Victoria Schwab: The Archived, The Unbound

The hero in this series, Wesley, is quirky and sweet. The romance in this duology is a bit more subtle than others, but any romance lover will root so strongly for it (even if there's this weird-ass love triangle in the first book)!

    1. Anna was MUCH gorey-er than Three Dark Crowns, probably why I loved it so much. XD I've only read VA by Richelle, but I'm planning to try some of her adult books when I get the chance. <3 And yes, THE ARCHIVED.

  1. I still haven't had the chance to dive into The Heroes of Olympus series! The first three books are sitting on my self… fingers crossed I get to them soon!

  2. Warner Warner Warner Warner Warner Warner.

I've surprisingly read almost all of these too Aimee and couldn't agree more! I love Julie Kagawa and her Immortal Rules series still remains one of my favourites. I tried the Iron Fey series years ago but sadly couldn't get into it at the time. Was cleaning out my bookcases tonight actually and found them stacked behind others, so put them aside yo give them another go.

    1. *hides in a corner*

I read The Iron Fey books yeaaars ago, and to be honest, I feel like if I give it another go at this age, I would probably have lots of trouble getting into it, too! But The Immortal Rules was divine. <3

  3. I haven't read The Girl From the Well, nor Percy Jackson, but I've read the others. Not completed series, but at least one book. Apart from both Kagawa series, I devoured those.
I don't mind a bit of romance in my fantasy novels, but it really shouldn't be the cure all, nor the most important aspect of the book.
    Great post, Aimee!

  4. Hi, Aimee!

I am so with you on the Shatter Me romance being overrated. I have only read the first book, and I really did not find it enjoyable as it was a romance book covered with a dystopian glaze. And usually, I love glazes and anything covered in them. Glazed doughnuts, glazed cakes, glazed chicken. Name it and I will most likely love it! 🙂

Anyway, this post is about YA romances you love, and you were not kidding when you wrote they were from backlist books. I only knew about Percabeth and that is because I love Rick Riordan's books. I love all of your choices, though, as the covers look spectacular and the descriptions sound even more amazing. I think I will have to try some! My favorite YA romance is Tessa Gray and William Herondale's from the Infernal Devices. I know so many people put this as their answer; however, I really enjoy it so I will be the day old glazed doughnut to make up my bookish sins.

Have a great day/night! *sends a box of fresh doughnuts, which have one or two missing. Oops*
