I'm Completely Over My Reading and Blogging Burnout (AKA January Kicked 2017's Ass!)

BOOKS, LIFE, OTHER / Wednesday, January 31st, 2018

Januray's almost coming to a close! That's already one month down this 2018. *cries* I wish we had 100 hours in a day. There's just so many books and so little time! But anyway, without further ado, here's my January wrap-up!

HOW JANUARY KICKED 2017'S (and 2016's) ASS

I AM FINALLY OVER MY MISERABLE 2-YEAR READING AND BLOGGING BURNOUT. The book gods have spoken, and they say that I am BACK IN THE GAME. *cue evil laughter* Although I'll be blogging a bit less than I did from 2013-2015, I will be blogging more fabulously. (If you end up disagreeing with this statement at any point in my blogging career, feel free to throw chocolate cake at my face. Then I shall eat it.)

That kid reminds me too much of myself!!!^

Here's another thing that I thought was weirdly awesome this month: there was this one time I accidentally missed my bus stop because of a really good book. It was a funny first experience. Good thing the bus conductor realized I was still there while we were still near my stop. IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT, THOUGH. No regrets!

You can find more awesome January happenings for me in my January appreciation post.

Now onto the books!

  • Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust: LOOK AT THE PRETTY COVER AND THE AWESOME CONCEPT. I needed to buy this one, friends. I actually already attempted to read this one, and I did like what I read so far (a chapter. Mehehe), but I got distracted by other pretty shinies (and, oddly enough, I prefer reading ebooks but I still love hoarding hardcovers) so I had to put this one off. I WILL read it within the year; I swear. ALSO! Check out my Instagram account stories for a sneak peek of the GORGEOUS bookish map inside this one!

Total spent on books this month: P999 / $19.60 (I would like to thank my mother from restraining me every time I picked up 384723984 hardcovers.)

  • Furyborn by Claire Legrand (May 22nd): Early reviews for this YA fantasy about two girls who are centuries apart have been absolutely SPECTACULAR. I can't wait to see if this one lives up to all the hype!
  • Nothing But Sky by Amy Trueblood (March 27th): This one sounds so different and unique! It's about a daredevil post-World War I pilot who wants to perform at an expo to earn a Hollywood contract. Very curious about how the author will handle this!
  • To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo (March 6th): I loved Alexandra as a book blogger, and now, I love her as an author! I already read this GLORIOUS read about sirens and mermaids and pirates and PURE AWESOMENESS. You can find my thoughts on Goodreads. Full review will be up closer to the release date!
  • In Sight of Stars by Gae Polisner (March 13th): Hooray for mental health YA! Really curious to see if this author can make this different from all the other YA contemporaries dealing with grief. (I actually already read this and DNFed it. *cries*)

Out of Left Field Kris Hui Lee August and Everything After Jennifer Salvato Doktorski

  • Out of Left Field by Kris Hui Lee (May 1st): I am in DIRE need for a sweet, quick contemporary read, and the cover gives me Miranda Kenneally/Kasie West vibes so I NEEDED THIS.
  • August and Everything After by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski (May 1st): I already read two books by this author before (one that I enjoyed a lot, and one that I didn't), so I'm curious to see what side of the fence I'll be on this time. Plus it sounds angsty, so obviously I'm in.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire, Flux Books, Hot Key Books and St. Martin's Press! *hugs*

I've never missed a bus or train or anything like that for reading but I have a tendency to be late everywhere I go and a lot of times it's because I wait until the last second to get ready to go because of a book. lol I am so jealous you have Furyborn and August and Everything After! 4. Ooh, I got Furyborn this month as well! I'm so so excited to read it, 1) because it sounds amazing and so many people seemed to have loved it, and 2) there's apparently a BI MC and that makes me want to read it even more! And ah I read Girls Made of Snow and Glass in January — it was super good. 😍 Hope you have an amazing February, and I'm super glad you found my post helpful! 💖

  6. So happy you got your groove back. Yeah! I jumped on a lot of those galleys as well. Out of Left Field and August and Everything After are like Sam-signature books. I hope we both like them! I love your post on backlist books. I am making a better effort to read more backlist books this year, and did really well with that goal last month.

  7. Aw you are too sweet for sharing my post! And YAYYYY that you are back, of course! Sad about In Sight of Stars- I had read a book by the author last year or the year before, who can remember, and I just could not connect, I assume I'd have similar troubles here. Totally agree about Allie AND her book! And I am really curious about Furyborn too, soooo much hype, we shall have to keep our fingers crossed. And now I am wanting cake, or at the very least, chocolate, so thanks for that 😀

    1. Thank you, Shannon! Very glad to be back. <3 And I'm not familiar with the In Sight of Stars author, but I can already tell I won't be a fan of other books by her in the future, unless her writing style changes greatly. D: Here's to awesome books and more cake in February! 😉

  8. Seems like you had a great January 🙂 And lol, you missed your bus stop? That's is really genius. I also want to do that someday 😀
